Makin’ Smiles Coffee is a small, family-run specialty coffee roaster located in Palmyra, Virginia, in Fluvanna County. We roast every order individually after it is placed, rather than shipping bags that have been sitting on a shelf. Local customers can pick up their order in person in Palmyra and skip the shipping fee entirely. Same-day roasting and pickup is often available with advance notice.

Can I get coffee the same day?
Often, yes. It is possible to get a fresh bag roasted and ready for pickup on the same day. Text 530-227-0864 and start your message with “Rush Makin’ Smiles Coffee.” We will do our best, though we cannot guarantee same-day service is available every day.
What makes locally roasted coffee different?
Coffee is at its best in roughly the first 30 to 60 days after roasting, and it fades noticeably after that. Most grocery store coffee carries a best-by date rather than a roast date, which hides how old it actually is. Bags on a shelf are frequently several months past roasting.
Because we roast after your order comes in, your coffee is typically only a day or two old when it reaches you. If you want to know exactly when a bag was roasted, just ask us. We are always happy to tell you.
We also store our green coffee in GrainPro bags before roasting, which protects the beans from moisture and oxygen and keeps them in good condition until the day they go into the roaster.
What do we sell?
We roast single-origin coffees from Brazil, Colombia, Honduras, Costa Rica, Mexico, and Ethiopia, along with our own house blends, in light, medium, and dark roast. Several of our coffees are certified Organic, Fair Trade, or Rainforest Alliance. We also carry a Mountain Water Process decaf that uses water rather than chemical solvents, a half caff option, and branded tumblers.
Every coffee is available whole bean or ground at no extra charge, in 12 OZ, 1 LB, or 10 LB sizes, and any of them can be set up as a recurring delivery instead of a one-time order. Browse the full selection here.
Wholesale coffee for central Virginia businesses
We supply fresh roasted wholesale coffee to businesses and organizations across the region, including coffee shops, cafes, bakeries, inns, hotels, restaurants, diners, churches, grocery stores, short term rentals, farm stores, camp stores, and fundraisers. We can also develop a custom roast under your own name.
Because we are local, wholesale customers in the Charlottesville and Fluvanna area get shorter lead times and fresher coffee than a national supplier can offer. Visit our wholesale page or email orders@makinsmilescoffee.com to talk it through.
Who we are
Makin’ Smiles Coffee is family-run and small by choice. Every bag is roasted by a person who knows what is in it, and we would rather talk with you about what you like than sell you whatever is on the shelf. If you are not sure what to order, call or text 530-227-0864 and describe how you drink your coffee. We do that all the time and we genuinely enjoy it.
